HABAU GROUP: MCE breaks ground for new steelwork production hall in Hungary

In Nyíregyháza, Hungary, MCE is erecting a modern production hall for steel bridge construction and steel components with integrated surface treatment.

At the Déli Ipari Park industrial complex in Nyíregyháza in northeastern Hungary, MCE GmbH, a HABAU GROUP company, is constructing a new production hall for steel bridge construction and steel parts. With an investment volume of around 50 million euros, this is the biggest single investment in the history of HABAU GROUP. The official groundbreaking ceremony for the project was celebrated on 26 March. Alongside local political representatives and the corporate management, the green light was given for the construction of the new production location.

“With the new production location in Nyíregyháza, we’re taking an important strategic step for the future of our Group”, says Hubert Wetschnig, CEO of HABAU GROUP. “The investment will strengthen our expertise in international steel and bridge construction while simultaneously creating state-of-the-art workplaces in the region. We’re laying the foundation to be able to sustainably meet the rising demand for steelwork projects in Europe.”

On a plot of land measuring roughly 113,000 square metres, by March 2028 a modern building complex consisting of a two-nave production hall, an office building with a canteen and a further outbuilding will be erected. The facility encompasses a built-up area of approx. 20,000 square metres, reaching a building height of around eleven metres and providing space for around 250 employees in future.

Expansion of capacities in European bridge building
MCE Nyíregyháza Kft., an independent subsidiary of MCE, has been operating in Nyíregyháza since 1989 and produces steel structures and bridges for the local, European and international market. To sustainably expand production capacities and enable further growth, the new production facility is to be created in the scope of a greenfield investment – i.e. a completely new construction, without relying on any existing structures.

The new steelwork manufacturing facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art machines and cranes and will allow for substantially more efficient production of steel structures and bridge parts. Special attention will be paid to optimised internal logistics and efficient manufacturing processes. The envisaged photovoltaic system will supply the new location with renewable energy.

“We’re pleased to be implementing a highly modern and efficient steelwork manufacturing facility at an international level with our new location in Nyíregyháza. By doing so, we’re not only strengthening our competitiveness, but also MCE’s role as a reliable partner for demanding bridges‑ and steelwork projects throughout all of Europe”, says Günther Dorrer, technical director at MCE GmbH.

With this project, HABAU GROUP is underscoring its long-term strategy for growth in European infrastructure and industry construction. The new production facility will create additional capacities for ambitious steelwork projects and strengthen the presence of the corporate group in the area of complex bridge and infrastructure projects.
