With an investment of 20 million euros, Würth Österreich is making a clear statement in favour of Lower Austria as a location and sending a strong signal for long-term growth, security of supply and international competitiveness. The contractor is HABAU in a consortium with PORR.
On behalf of Würth Österreich, the HABAU Hoch- und Tiefbaugesellschaft m.b.H./PORR AG consortium will build the expansion of halls 6-9, thereby extending the existing logistics facility of the specialist in assembly and fastening materials trade in Böheimkirchen, Lower Austria. The construction project is anticipated to be completed in mid-2027.
The go-ahead for the extension was officially given at the groundbreaking ceremony on 26 March 2026: the expansion will increase the existing location by a useable area of 10,756 square metres (built-up area: 6,866 square metres). With this, not only will Böheimkirchen be further developed as a pivotal logistics centre for Austria, it will also be positioned as a logistics ‑hub for supplying Eastern European markets. The extension will create the infrastructure basis to be able to continue to reliably meet the increasing requirements of trade and industry in future.
“In economically challenging times in particular, it is important to us to invest consciously – in our infrastructure, in our employees and in our location in Lower Austria”, emphasises Michael Hempt, CEO of Würth Österreich. “With this logistics expansion, we’re creating the conditions to be able to fulfil our high standard of service in future too.”
Modern timber construction meets innovative prefab construction
The latest construction project is an impressive example of how modern timber construction and innovative precast construction can be efficiently merged. The slope stabilisation presented a special challenge: this was carried out using a nail wall, so as to permanently stabilise the subsoil and gain reliable control over the demanding terrain conditions. This created a forward-looking overall concept that unites an ecological construction method with technical prowess.
“The groundbreaking marks an important milestone for the logistics location of Böheimkirchen. We’d like to express our heartfelt thanks to Würth for the trust placed in our collaborative partnership”, emphasises Hubert Wetschnig, CEO of HABAU GROUP. “The combination of modern timber construction and innovative prefab construction is a great example of our aspiration to unite ecological responsibility with a high degree of efficiency and precision in implementation. By doing so, together we create structures that are convincing in terms of both economy and sustainability.”
