European champions: gold for emerging HABAU talents at the EuroSkills 2025 in Denmark

At the European vocational championships EuroSkills 2025 in Herning, Denmark, HABAU specialists Lukas Miedler from Lower Austria (Horn) and Lukas Ritzberger from Upper Austria (Enns) managed to secure the gold medal in the category “concrete construction”. Following their win at the AustrianSkills 2023, they now managed to make their mark on a European stage and demonstrate their skills impressively.

Since 2008, the European vocational championship EuroSkills has been held every two years for around 38 professions. From 10 to 12 September 2025, highly talented young specialists from roughly 30 countries were pitted against one another in Herning. The aim of EuroSkills is to strengthen dual training, establish a link between training and economy and thus motivate young skilled workers. This gives our young professionals the opportunity to gain experience, measure up against their colleagues and become the best in their trade.

“It’s an indescribable feeling! We were already over the moon after the AustrianSkills. But now also bringing home gold at the EuroSkills is the absolute highlight”, exclaimed the two European champions Lukas Miedler and Lukas Ritzberger. “Our intensive preparation paid off, especially because we were under high pressure and up against strong competition. Which makes us even prouder that we were able to demonstrate our ability on an international stage. We’d like to give a heartfelt thank-you to our trainers and to HABAU – without their support, our success wouldn’t have been nearly as great.”

First place for HABAU concrete construction duo
The two HABAU winners had just 18 hours to build three workpieces. The major challenge consisted of combining curved traditional timber formwork with modern system formwork. The subsequent concreting with a concrete pump drew a large crowd of spectators. In addition, the participants also created the formwork for a bearer with pillars and the reinforcement cage to go with it. The result was judged by the exposed concrete stripped of the formwork.

The utmost precision and speed were required. The safety aspects and work organisation were continuously evaluated by the jury. With technique, stamina and team spirit, Miedler and Ritzberger overcame the challenge masterfully and won out against strong international competition.

The two gold medal winners acquired their expertise and competence in concrete construction during their apprenticeship at HABAU. Preparation for the competition was coordinated by Thomas Prigl, Franz Lehrner and Karl Fröschl in close cooperation with the vocational school, on-site training centre and HABAU. During training sessions, workflows were simulated and optimised. Since with precision work of this kind, every single movement is make or break, work was assessed in the realm of millimetres.

“Lukas Miedler’s and Lukas Ritzberger’s success shows the enormous potential that is inside our young skilled workers”, says HABAU GROUP CEO Hubert Wetschnig. “Their win is fantastic proof that motivation, passion for the trade and team spirit can lead to peak performances even under strong pressure from the competition. This result is both an homage to the outstanding work of our trainers as well as the strong cooperation within the entire HABAU GROUP team. We’re very proud to have these two young talents within our ranks.”
