Major contract for MCE: Rhine Bridge A40 Duisburg-Neuenkamp

MCE, a member of the HABAU GROUP, is pleased to have been awarded a major project with a volume of 500 million euros. The steel construction specialist from Linz is building a complex structure as part of a bidding consortium, including HOCHTIEF, ZSB and PST: With a length of 800 metres and a main opening width of 380 metres, Germany’s largest cable-stayed bridge is taking shape on the A40 in Duisburg-Neuenkamp. “The commissioning of such an outstanding major project yet again speaks volumes for MCE’s considerable experience in the field of bridge construction,” says Hubert Wetschnig, CEO of the HABAU GROUP. Completion is scheduled for 2026.

100,000 crossings a day

This project is of incredible importance to the region. Approximately 100,000 vehicles cross the old Rhine Bridge – every single day. The ageing structure from 1970 was originally designed for a maximum of 30,000 crossings per day. This has caused its fair share of problems and traffic jams. The new Rhine Bridge is an important building block in the expansion of the A40, and MCE has been entrusted with its delivery and assembly. All in all, the measures should contribute to easing one of North Rhine-Westphalia’s key traffic flows.

Austrian steel construction expertise

This contract enables MCE to continue its success story in the field of large bridge construction within Germany. It was only 20 years ago that the company was involved in the construction of the airport bridge over the Rhine near Düsseldorf. Other recent case study projects include the Retheklapp Bridge in Hamburg – one of the largest of its kind – the 500-metre-long Eldetal Bridge as part of the A14 motorway and the cable-stayed bridges on the A30 motorway crossing the Werre Valley near Bad Oeynhausen. The Mangold Bridge, currently being built in Rosenheim, and the Rhine Bridge Hard Fussach also speak to MCE’s competence as a cable-stayed bridge constructor.
