Please take a seat: HABAU GROUP apprentices build seating area for Waldbad Perg forest pool

For decades, the Waldbad natural forest pool in the Upper Austrian city of Perg has been a popular meeting spot for all ages. To expand the available seating options, the HABAU GROUP has now fabricated a concrete seating ensemble at the initiative of the association “Waldbad 69ers”. The ensemble, sponsored by Austria’s fourth biggest construction group, was built by enthusiastic HABAU GROUP apprentices with great dedication and is now available at the natural pool on the river Naarn – as a symbol of active regional engagement and for the delight of all bathers. The project was implemented in cooperation with the Raiffeisenbank Perg, which provided financial support. On 6 June, the finished seating furniture was officially handed over as part of an apprentice event alongside Perg mayor Anton Froschauer.

“The Waldbad is a place for people to gather, where generations come together. It makes me especially happy that young people are helping shape and develop the leisure opportunities in Perg. I’d like to give a special thanks to the HABAU GROUP and the Raiffeisenbank Perg, two companies with deep regional ties that are taking on responsibility for our community with this project. Congratulations on the successful cooperation; the result is certainly impressive”, enthused Anton Froschauer, mayor of Perg.

Teamwork among apprentices at the HABAU GROUP

Tasked with building the seating furniture, consisting of four benches and a table, were the HABAU GROUP apprentices. While the first-year apprentices built the formwork, bound the iron and poured the concrete for the first bench, the second and third-year apprentices were in charge of constructing the table and the remaining benches. The finished concrete workpieces were presented back in February and then temporarily stored at the HABAU prefab plant in Perg. Following this, the substrate for the subsequent furnishing was professionally prepared and plastered in synergy with the Group company Held & Francke Baugesellschaft m.b.H.

“Our apprentices are the future of the construction industry. It’s our goal to not only teach them professional skills, but to also transmit our enthusiasm for our careers to them”, declared Hubert Wetschnig, CEO of the HABAU GROUP. “Projects such as this one combine hands-on training with creativity and social responsibility. The commitment of our young specialists is an impressive example of what’s possible with teamwork.”

Ceremonial handover with graffiti workshop

As part of an apprentice event, the new seating furniture was officially handed over to the Waldbad Perg on 6 June. One major highlight of the event was a creative team-building workshop, in which under the guidance of graffiti agency CanLab, apprentices of the HABAU GROUP and Raiffeisenbank Perg embellished the seating ensemble with their own graffiti artwork.

The new designs represent not just an optical upgrade to the concrete furniture, but also a way of protecting against vandalism, thus increasing their longevity. Joined by parents, employees involved in the project and the mayor of Perg, the day was drawn to a pleasant close with a group barbecue evening.

“As a bank with deep regional ties, it’s of particular importance to us to encourage young people as they develop and support projects that strengthen our community. The cooperation with the HABAU GROUP and the dedicated apprentices shows just how much potential there is in our youth – and how team spirit and responsibility create lasting values. It was especially gratifying to see how apprentices from different companies came together, worked as a single unit and were able to learn from each other. These kinds of experiences are priceless and strengthen not just professional competence, but also the way we interact with one another in our region”, said Dir. Klaus Drabek, Chairman of the Raiffeisenbank Perg.
