ÖSTU-STETTIN: Green light for residential project in Vienna’s Nordbahnviertel district

Client: MIGRA and WOGEM
Construction start: February 2022
Usable floor space: 22,000 m²
Residential units: 247
Scheduled end of construction: March 2024

The company ÖSTU-STETTIN, which is part of the HABAU GROUP, began in February 2022 the construction of a new residential building on behalf of MIGRA and WOGEM on the site of the former North Railway Station in Vienna. The latter encompasses an area of around 85 hectares and stretches to the north of the Praterstern and Lasallestraße, bordering Innstraße in the 20th district. It is one of the most significant areas of urban development in Vienna.

Sustainable construction comprises 247 apartments, nine offices, a supermarket and 133 parking spaces

Where not too long ago heavy ÖBB freight trains rolled along the tracks, a contemporary building with 247 apartments, nine offices, a supermarket and 133 underground parking spaces is now being created. This is divided into a podium zone up to the fourth upper floor; perched on top of this are three towers with up to six storeys each. The issue of sustainability plays a major role in the implementation: the rooftop areas, for example, will be fitted out almost entirely with photovoltaic systems and the facade will feature lavish vegetation – as protection against the heat in the summer.

“Home game” for ÖSTU-STETTIN

“For us at ÖSTU-STETTIN, the project at “Am Tabor 19-21” is what we’d call a ‘home game’. We’ve worked in the Nordbahnviertel district since the early 2000s, constructing the offices of Telekom and SAP and the Suite Hotel, among other things”, Robert Hitschmann, technical director of ÖSTU-STETTIN, is pleased to announce. Hubert Wetschnig, CEO of HABAU GROUP, is equally enthusiastic: “I’m very proud that our construction family is playing such a huge role in shaping the cityscape of Vienna with numerous projects. The new building in the Nordbahnviertel district is an opportunity to once again prove our skill and integrity.”

End of construction as early as March 2024

The construction measures began in February 2022 and are scheduled to be completed as early as March 2024. To ensure adherence to this tight schedule, the extensive and ambitious excavation work is already in full swing. In the coming months, a total of 2,800 tonnes of steel and 21,000 cubic metres of concrete will be installed into a useable area of 22,000 square metres.
